Nainital also known as India 'Lake District' because of the numerous lakes spread across its boundaries, derives its from an old temple of Goddess Naina Devi on the shore of the lake. It is a beautiful hill district nestled in the lap of the Central Himalayas in the Kumaon region. Legend has it that the rishis brought the waters of the sacred Mansarovar River to form over Naini Lake.

Bhowali :- Bhowali is 11 kms away from Nainital on the Haldwani-Almora Road. It is quite famous as a market known for its variety of fruits. It also houses the famous Sainik School of India. This place is said to be good for those patients who ail from problems of the lungs. There is also a Sanatorium here.
Hanumanghar :- About 3 kms from Nainital is the famous temple of Lord Hanumanji. It is a religious centre and is well known for its sunset view. This temple was constructed by Baba Neem Karauli and has a 12 feet statue of Lord Hanuman.
Naini lake :- One of the main attractions of Nainital is the Naini Lake also called Tririshi Lake. The lake is shaped like an eye and is surrounded by hills on all side. It is said to be one of the emerald green eyes of Siva's wife which fell at this site and hence the name Naini Tal.
Naini Peak :- (2610 mtrs)Naina Peak, also called, as China Peak is the tallest of all in Nainital, at a height of 2611 metres commanding the finest views of the Himalayas and an intriguing bird’s-eye. On a clear day, a wide range of the snow-clad Himalayas is visible.
Snow View :- Snow view as the name suggests offers an indescribably beautiful and breath-taking picture of the glittering snows of Himalayas. It is the most easily accessible hilltop and is 2.5 kms away from Nainital
State Observatory :- Near the Hanuman temple stands the Uttaranchal Government observatory and the Satellite Tracking Center devoted to astronomical studies and optical tracking or artificial earth satellites. Public is shown round some of the instruments during working days at afternoons.

Dehradun:
Dehradun, nestled in a wide and thickly forested valley of the Shivalik ranges, Uttar Pradesh is known for its salubrious climate. Legend has it Guru Dronacharaya, a Brahmin teacher of warfare, considered the place fit for meditation & worship and therefore, the valley of Doon was christened Drona Ashram, meaning "The Abode of Drona". During British Raj, It was the summer base of the Viceroy's Bodyguard and at present, the base of the Indian Military Academy.

Dak Pathar :- It is the Site of a hydel project situated on Dehradun-Chakrata road, which has been developed into a picnic and recreation center. It is connected by regular bus service from the Parade Ground and Highway Bus Stand near Railway Station.
Forest Research Institute :- Established by the British the Institute is one of the finest of its kind in the world. All Forest Officers in India are trained here. This thickly forested sanctuary spreads all the way to Dehradun.
Rajaji National Park :- This Park is distinct for its pristine scenic beauty and rich biodiversity spread over a large area. Rajaji is a magnificent ecosystem, rich in faunal wealth existing in the reserve. The wildlife of the park is blessed with elephants, tigers, leopards, deer and ghorals as its best-known life forms.
Robbers Cave :- Popularly known as Guchhu Pani, it is situated 8 kms. from Dehradun and is an ideal picnic spot surrounded by hills. Water vanishes underground only to reappear after a few yards in the form of a stream.
Tapkeshwar Temple :- Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this cave temple is beside a stream on the banks of a seasonal river where water falls on a shivling drop by drop from a rock and hence the name Tapkeshwar. It is 5.5 km from the city bus stand.
